Garden State Numismatic Ass. Convention starts Thursday
http://www.gsna.org/convention.htm
Any GIMers heading over? My brother has a table and I'll be there trying to unload a boatload of Silver Pandas on Thursday. Anyone heading over there? |

Re: Garden State Numismatic Ass. Convention starts Thursday
Bump to see if anyone's going?
Hopefully, at my brothers table , I'll be trying to sell the following Silver Pandas: Year Quantity 2003 BU 100 1996 BU 100 2006 BU 240 (PRC Mint packaged 'wheels' of 15 coins per) 1984 Proof 2 1987 Proof 17 1989 Proof 36 1990 Proof 6 1992 Proof 16 as well as a few assorted single coins in most years, and a couple of slabbed (NGC) ones. Dunno how the interest is as these shows as far as the Pandas, so we'll see what's what. Might lose some bullion too, he thinks they'll probably pay around $2 over spot for Engelhard 10 ozers and A-mark rounds, depending on what's available. Wish me luck! |

Good size show. Maybe 100 or so table vendors. Got there around 11, brother had been there since 9 or so. Was open to dealers only til 1PM, then open to public. Hung around til 2:30 or so. My brother said there'd probably be a small line forming around 12:30, but at 1PM there were exactly 8 people waiting for the doors to open. Still dead when I left. Aside from all my brothers stuff, tons of it, and most it well beyond my collecting capacity (I'm not a hardcore numi) my Pandas sat forlorn in the case. Not that I didn't expect as much. It's kind of a small, fringe type , though avid group that collects these coins. Saw precisely 3 other Panda coins in the entire place. All gold, one half ounce, two quarters, from the early 90's. I'm going to have to slab all my proofs and go eBay route I fear. It brings quite a premium as you can imagine, with all the fakery etc associated with them. But uggh what a pain that'll be. Surprisingly though the bullion sat unmolested as well. Twenty total J&M and Engelhard 10 ozers, and hundred or so A-Mark rounds. Thing with these is it went like this- they see who has bullion and how much they're gonna ask. They all ask each other, and kind of agree on a number. An unspoken , 'don't undercut everybody else' type thing it seemd, at least to an outsider. Well the number was spot +2 , or $16/oz, and from what my brother says, no one sold anything. Not that there were more than 5 or six guys displaying any really, and our cache by far the largest seen. Maybe they start stabbing eachother in the back by the weekend? LOL. Scary report was talking with my brother and him telling what he's hearing about what's going on in China with counterfeits. Not Pandas. Everything. And not just the coins, but the slabs. He says he's heard it's entirely possible to custom order. For instance, you want , say, a 1924 Buffalo Nickel graded VF25 by NGC? Just place the order, they'll make the coin and the holder. And different qualities available for different price. In other words, you need to just fool a rube, it'll cost X, want a shot at slipping past a dealer , maybe 3X, or whatever. Scary. Dunno how that's all gonna end, but it will kill the game if it doesn't. So the final tally is all of 30 Pandas sold. 2006 BU's. These are in a Mint-packaged "wheel" of 15 coins. $300 per wheel ($20/coin), which is about as cheap as you'll find these anywhere, especially in any size, and with a guarantee as to authenticity. One to a collector, one to another dealer. Anyway, maybe it'll pick up a little over the next 2 days, but I ain't expecting much. I'll tell him there's a little room to come down on the bullion depending on what spot does tomorrow. |
Re: Garden State Numismatic Ass. Convention starts Thursday
Day two update. Wasn't there myself, just got the recap from my brother. Not a lot moving again. He didn't sell much of his own inventory at all either.
Today's sale: 1 add'l 15 coin wheel of 2006 Bu Pandas @$300 ($20/coin). 1 10-sheet of 2003 BU Pandas @ $350 ($35/coin) - Both sold to other dealers 4 Ten ounce Engelhard bars at $160 ($16/oz). Hopefully Saturday will be a better day! |

Last post to close this thread out.
No interest. Weak showing by all accounts at this show. My brother knows most all dealers in the area personally and they all told him the same thing, Real bad showing, nothing moving etc. The weekend was no better than the weekdays. I dropped the price on the generics to $15 even and still no takers, though the bars almost sold out. Couple Panda hunters excited to see such selection in one place (unheard of says one!). Yet not much moved. Brother came away with little sold but well enough to cover his table cost. Today : Dropped , 1 more wheel of 2006 BU pandas at $300. 6 1996 Pandas at $30 per( dealer buy) 4 J&M 10 ounce bars 1 1987 Silver Panda at $125 2 slabbed pandas (a 1989 P and a 1992 BU) for $69 and $59 respectively. Went to $15 even on the generics, no interst. Just want to make this clear- this was a numi show , but there was zero interest overall in bullion, almost zero. fwiw. For all y'all tell me there ain't no bullion at any price, come , talk to me, this was the largest show in Jersey, and nobody cared for spot +1 , cash and carry, no shipping etc , bullion? The 'shortage' you see is in your mind. |

Wow...thanks for the updates. Too bad there weren't better results, though. I think the end-result about the Counterfeits coming in from China is people will buy more from the US Mint. :10_1_19: Thanks again! |
